Job Description

Data Center Operations is responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining a global Cloud Computing Infrastructure. We seek skilled Data Centre Operation Technicians at Amazon Data Services India Private Limited (“ADSIPL”) with a passion for technology to contribute to the expansion of AWS Cloud offerings.

To meet the increasing demand for disk and network capacity, we are actively expanding our Data Centers in India. Additionally, our content delivery AWS service, CloudFront, has expanded its global presence by over 50% in the past 12 months, with similar growth expected in the next 12 months. The Opportunity: Data Centre Operations Technician

This role provides a unique opportunity to work in cutting-edge data centers at ADSIPL, influencing the landscape of Cloud technology in India.

Key Responsibilities:

Problem Solving: Maintain high system reliability by efficiently prioritizing and resolving trouble tickets, serving as the escalation point and technical troubleshooter for Systems and Network hardware problems. Conduct in-depth troubleshooting of Linux server issues and address XEN service virtualization challenges.

Technical: Troubleshoot technical issues across various platforms, including Systems, Networking, and Power/Mechanical. Remediate physical layer outages for both Systems and Network, address power issues on racks, and participate in Data Center power and cooling events.

Operations: Meet 24×7 On-Call requirements during shift rotations. Install and configure racks of hosts according to internal SLAs, triage and resolve trouble tickets, act as the Data Center point of contact for High Severity issues, and physically replace server and network device parts. Enforce Security Best Practices at ADSIPL, interact with third-party vendors and contractors, and contribute ideas to improve operational efficiency.

Project Management: Participate in and deliver high-impact small to mid-scale projects, attend internal team meetings for metric analysis and project status updates, and contribute to building the world’s largest Cloud infrastructure in India.

Mentoring: Share knowledge and educate less technical staff on best practices related to break-fix issues.

Hiring: Contribute to building a great team by participating in ADSIPL’s hiring process and candidate interviews.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Solid understanding of Linux/Unix Administration
• Server hardware troubleshooting experience
• Familiarity with server booting processes: POST, BIOS, PXE, Kickstart, GRUB/LILO, RAID
• Some experience with network protocols: TCP/IP, Ethernet, L2/L3 technologies
• Knowledge of network hardware: Copper and Optical Fiber Cabling, Switches, Routers
• Strong communication skills
• Passion for IT infrastructure and hardware

Note: This role involves a physical component requiring the ability to lift and rack equipment up to 20kg, and may involve working in cramped spaces or elevated locations while adhering to health and safety guidelines. The position also requires 24×7 shift rotation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Remote access experience: Console routers, IPMI, BMC
• Network equipment installation and configuration
• Familiarity with Cisco IOS, NX-OS, JunOS
• Understanding of redundancy in power feeds, ATS, server hardware, RAID, and network connectivity
• Knowledge of Data Center Operations, including inventory management, hot/cold aisles, and security
• Experience in project management
• Familiarity or knowledge of AWS products such as EC2, EBS, S3, etc.
• Scripting experience in Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby, or other programming languages
