Job Description

As a DevOps Engineer Intern with Guidewire’s DevSecOps team, your role involves constructing and managing the DevOps Tooling Infrastructure for our team. The primary objective is to facilitate the scaling of the Guidewire Cloud offering for internal teams.

Key responsibilities include establishing and refining best practices and methodologies for infrastructure setup, automation, and maintenance. Close collaboration with peers is essential to achieve these goals.

Responsibilities:

  1. Adherence to core principles of integrity, rationality, and collegiality is paramount.
  2. Recognition of the urgency in a production system setting and comprehension of the implications of any alterations made.
  3. Comprehensive understanding of the Guidewire Cloud operating model, collaborating with internal operational teams to identify challenges and enhance through tooling and automation.
  4. Meeting milestones, adhering to client SLAs, and maintaining defined KPIs.
  5. Construction, automation, and upkeep of tooling infrastructure in AWS/On-Prem, emphasizing Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD practices.
  6. Capability to architect a reliable high-availability cluster solution for development tools.
  7. Exerting technical influence to enhance product and system reliability.
  8. Agile team collaboration, on-call support, and ensuring deliverables meet production standards.
  9. Development of monitors, dashboards, and log visualizations to collect metrics, learning requirements to improve platform availability, performance, uptime, and response times.
  10. Operation of development and high-available production environments in AWS.
  11. Rapid adaptation to new technologies in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements:

  1. BA/BS in Computer Science.
  2. Willingness to be flexible and participate in an on-call rotation.
  3. Proficiency in building infrastructure software using tools like Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, and Cloud-native technologies.
  4. Understanding of network paradigms and available stacks.
  5. Comfort with Linux system administration and programming/scripting in Go, Python, Java, or equivalent.
  6. Competence in log analysis and strong debugging skills.
  7. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  8. Demonstrated problem-solving ability.
  9. Agile and systematic problem-solving approach with a sense of ownership and drive.

Desired Skills/Experience:

  1. High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently while collaborating with peers.
  2. Experience in environments utilizing cloud or off-premise enterprise applications.
  3. Passion for automation over manual work.
  4. Quick learning of complex systems and new technologies.
  5. Understanding of AWS services such as EC2, Route53, S3, and load balancers. Knowledge of AWS networking is desirable.
