About You
We are seeking to expand our SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) team with experienced engineers who are eager to advance their careers in a company that is currently undergoing one of the most significant technology transformations in history. As a member of our team, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the stability of Yahoo’s products and infrastructure, collaborating closely with other DevOps teams. We operate services at an extensive scale, spanning our entire software, system, and network infrastructure across our data centers and multiple cloud service providers. Role Responsibilities
- Monitor, identify, and troubleshoot issues of varying complexity on a large scale.
- Manage system builds, configurations, patches, and upgrades.
- Collaborate effectively with other service, network, and facilities teams.
- Develop and implement creative and practical solutions to resolve non-routine problems.
- Create and utilize tools for automating deployment, administration, and monitoring tasks.
- Apply expertise in system methodologies, designs, and troubleshooting techniques.
Qualifications
The ideal candidates should possess a diverse range of computer science skills, be results-driven, highly motivated, and demonstrate a strong sense of ownership.
Key qualifications include:
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; alternatively, equivalent industry experience.
- Proficiency with Linux and fundamental Operating System principles.
- Experience with container-based solutions like Docker.
- Familiarity with cloud services and best practices.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language, such as Python or JavaScript.
- Proficiency in at least one system language, such as C, C++, Go, or Rust.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP, application security, monitoring, and storage.
- The ability to communicate effectively with non-technical audiences and engineers who specialize outside the realms of SRE and Infrastructure.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with system performance diagnostic tools, such as lsof, strace, perf.
- Experience with Kubernetes and container-based orchestration.
We are currently offering positions for all shifts, including day shifts, swing shifts, night shifts, and some weekend coverage. This role is 100% remote, with minimal travel expectations.
